Keep your fingers crossed!

Well I had my home visit today. I think all went well and I am know anxiously awaiting the final verdict. Baxter was his usual wild self when MaryAnn arrived this afternoon. He did eventually calm down though and show that he could be well behaved :). Bella was the good girl she always is. Pixie went into hiding and refused to show herself. Those of you who know me know that patience is not one of my best virtues and this is killing me! I would happily get in the car to go pick her up in the morning. I even bought her new toys when I was out shopping tonight AND I told Baxter he couldn't have them. Hopefully, I will find something out in the next day or two.

Dakota seems to be doing fantastic. Look at her go! She seems to be quite happy to be off her crate rest following her surgery. I am going to have to find one of these busy buddies for her she seems to love it...

I think this is Zoe that she's playing with.

Baxter and Bella had their friends, Duchess and Cody, over visiting while their family was out of town. I posted some pictures from their visit. They went back home Friday night, the kids were very happy to have their puppies back with them.

And this is Cody after he finally got the toy away from Baxter. He's too tired to play with it now though!

Okay I can't leave Bax out, here's my cute boy!

One last surgery

Dakota went in to get spayed today. Everything went great and the vet also fixed an umbilical hernia while she was under. She is back home with her foster mom tonight sleeping off the anesthesia and resting.

Hopefully this will be the last surgery she will ever need! Her story as well as anyone knows it, is that she was hit by a car, crushing her right front leg. Her family then proceeded to do absolutely nothing! That's right nothing, no treatment, no pain medication, NOTHING!!! I don't know why they did nothing to help her, if they didn't think it was that bad, didn't have the money for the care or just thought she might be taken away from them. It doesn't matter, there is no excuse for treating an animal this way. They finally surrendered her to Pug Rescue of Florida a week later when her leg was rotting off and gangrene had set in. The infection was eating away at her leg to the point where the bones were visible and the gangrene had spread up into her shoulder. They had no choice but to remove her leg in order to save her life. Below are pictures of Dakota right right after surgery (the picture in the first post was also right after) and another just 3 days after her surgery. Lastly, I posted the pictures of her the night the pug rescue got her showing the condition of her little leg. The pictures are pretty graphic so I have posted them lower down so that you have to scroll down if you want to see them.

This was her when she was surrendered. I don't know how someone could let an animal suffer like this...

How this all got started!

So this is where my whole idea of starting my own blog started. The little darling below was on one of the Pug Rescue of Florida when I went browsing to see who needed a home. There are four pug rescues in Florida that I am aware of and I was checking to see if anybody just screamed you're my mommy. Well, this one did. She actually wasn't up for adoption. She had been hit by a car and her family surrendered her (eventually, more on that later). She lost her front right leg as a result and the rescue was asking for donations for her care.

So I donated of course, how could you say no to this face??? I also promptly sent off an email inquiring about her and then went home and filled out the lengthy application. I'm not complaining most of these dogs have been thru quite a lot and they deserve to go to homes that are going to take care of them. They also sent me a link to her foster mom's blog site so I could get updates on her and hence my new blog!

It seems all was okay with my application. She is scheduled to be spayed this week and then she will be ready for her new home. The only problem is I she is at the pug rescue the furthest from me in Florida and before I can be approved to be her new mommy they have to do a home visit. So another closer pug rescue has been contacted to see if they have someone who can come do the home visit. Then (keep your fingers crossed) I will be adding another member to the family. Baxter and Bella are thrilled, Pixie not so much.

I set this up in a bit of rush but will be updating, changing and adding to it regularly.
